Purpose

This fun shoot will allow anyone interested to get a feel for what silhouette shooting is all about. Although the following rules do not strictly follow traditional BPCR (black powder cartridge rifle) rules, I.E. shooting off a bench, yardage limitations, etc., it will give anyone who is interested an idea what BPCR shooters face. Centerfire BPCR shooters are required to shoot at steel silhouette targets out to a maximum range of 500 meters, while .22 rimfire BPCR shooters have a maximum range of 200 meters. Due to range limitations, our maximum range will be 200 yards.

Targets

There are four sets (banks) of targets, sized appropriate to their range (detailed below). They are steel silhouettes in the shape of chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams. The targets are placed on rails and must be knocked over in order to be scored as a hit.

Course of fire

The course of fire is 40 shots for record, 10 shots for each bank of targets (chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams). There will be eleven targets per shooter, with the far left target designated as the "sighter" target for sighting in before shooting for score. Timing will be 10 minutes, with unlimited sighter shots permitted within the time limit.

A scorekeeper will keep track of the number of hits. Although not required, the scorekeeper may also perform duties as a sighter. The sighter is responsible for informing the shooter where the round strikes. The sighter uses a spotting scope that allows him to aid the shooter, by indicating to the shooter where each shot strikes, in fine tuning his sight picture.

Scoring

Once a contestant determines, via unlimited sighter shots, that he is ready to "go for record", he informs the scorekeeper /sighter of his intention, and no more sighter shots are allowed. The targets are then shot in sequence; 1 shot per target (10 shots for 10 targets), left to right. Targets shot out of sequence will be scored a miss. If a target is missed, the shooter will move to the next target. Any target that is still standing is considered a miss. For example, a target can (and will!) be rotated on its feet and not fall down, and this is considered a miss.

Chickens will be shot offhand. The pigs and turkeys may be shot in any position, I.E. offhand, kneeling, sitting or prone. If a contestant feels the need to mimic the "traditional" method, they may opt to shoot prone, either off cross sticks some other front rest. For turkeys and rams, the contestant may also use the bench. Due to the layout of the range, the rams cannot be seen from the prone position, but any other position is allowed.

Classifications

There will be two classifications, scoped and non-scoped. Any/all .22 rimfire rifles are welcome. However, shooting aids such as palm rests, slings, shooting coats, etc., or any accuracy enhancement devices (I.E. tuners, etc.) attached to the rifle are not allowed. Any front rest is legal if shooting from the prone position or from a bench, but no rear bag will be allowed. There will be no limitations on ammo, so if anyone wants to shoot $14.00/box ammo, feel free!

Required equipment:

Rifle, sights/scope, ammunition, front rest (optional), spotting scope (optional) shooting mat (optional), cross sticks (optional). Hopefully enough spotting scopes, front rests, etc. will be available for any entrant who doesn't possess one of their own.
